Chinese Currency – Yuan (元) or Renminbi (人民币)
The official currency used in China is the Yuan (元) or Renminbi (人民币) (ISO Code CNY; Symbol ¥). The most common denominations you will see are the following:
Frequently Used Banknotes:
- 100 Yuan / (一百元) / (一百块)
- 50 Yuan / (五十元) / (五十块)
- 20 Yuan / (二十元) / (二十块)
- 10 Yuan / (十元) / (十块)
- 5 Yuan / (五元) / (五块)
- 1 Yuan / (一元) / (一块)
The Yuan (元) or Renminbi (人民币) however is not the official legal tender in Hong Kong and Macau, which use Hong Kong Dollar (ISO Code HKD; Symbol HKD $) and Macau Pataca (ISO Code MOP; Symbol MOP$) respectively.
