Yiwu City | Hangzhou City | Shaoxing City | Wenzhou City | Ningbo City
Hangzhou City (杭州市) is the provincial capital of Zhejiang and is one of the most important tourism cities in China. The great Italian traveler Marco Polo once visited the city and called it “beyond dispute the finest and the noblest in the world”.
The most famous tourist attraction in Hangzhou is the West Lake, a UNESCO Heritage Site. The lake is formed naturally from a shallow sea inlet and is a popular imperial retreat in Chinese history. The West Lake is surrounded by extraordinarily shaped hills, dense temperate foliage and myriads of beautiful blossoms which are all elements of traditional Chinese gardens but on a huge and natural setting.
Around the West Lake are other famous tourist attractions such as Ling Yin Temple, the Mausoleum of General Yue Fei and the Six Harmonies Pagoda. The tidal bore of the Qiantang River near Hangzhou is also spectacle and is ever popular especially during the full moon period of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Hangzhou City is also famous for producing top-quality silk and Dragon Well Tea, considered to be the best Green Tea in China. The National Tea Museum located at the West Lake Dragon Well Tea Plantation provides a fascinating insight into the history and production of Chinese Tea.
