Suzhou City (苏州市) in Jiangsu Province is one of the most famous historical and cultural cities in China. In particular, it is known as a garden city because of the numerous classical Chinese gardens it possesses some of which are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
These classical Chinese gardens are small privately owned mansions of retired officials and local tycoons. However despite their small sizes, these gardens are skillfully decorated with artificial hills, trees, pavilions, towers, platforms, lakes and stone bridges that made use of every inch of space to create artistic effect of viewing big and spontaneous changing scenes in a confined space.
Some of the more well-known gardens are The Humble Administrator’s Garden, Lingering Garden, Master of Nets Garden and Lion Grove. In particular, the Humble Administrator Garden which is listed on UNESCO is considered the best among all the gardens.
Apart from classical Chinese Gardens, other famous tourist attractions include the Tiger Hill and Han Shan Temple. There are also numerous silk factories as silk produced in Suzhou City is also considered to be the best Chinese silk.
