The Great Wall of China is one of the most symbolic structure and achievement of the ancient Chinese civilization. Apart from the wall structure itself, the sights of the surrounding mountains as well as the hiking experience would make the trip a memorial one.

Beijing has some of the most complete and best preserved segments of the Great Wall of China. There are different segments of the Great Wall that are opened to the public in Beijing. The most famous one is Badaling Great Wall which is reputed to provide the most magnificent view of the Great Wall in Beijing. In addition, cable car service is available at Badaling Great Wall for elder folks and for those who have a tight schedule and could not spare additional hours for the hike.

The other popular segments include Juyongguan Great Wall, Yellow Flower Water Great Wall, Jiankou Great Wall, Mutianyu Great Wall, Jinshanling Great Wall and Simatai Great Wall. Each segments of the Great Wall offer visitors a unique experience.

Some segments of the Great Wall are further away from the city central and would require additional traveling time to reach there.  You may also consider staying overnight in one of the many hotels at these locations since the hike itself would take a few hours.

Furthermore, certain segments of the Great Wall require considerable amount of hiking and would not be suitable for elderly folks and young children. It is advisable that you check with your tour agencies on the expected difficulty of your route.
